Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), sometimes known as Vibration White Finger (VWF), is a secondary form of Raynaud’s syndrome caused by exposure to vibration at work.

If you regularly use hand held or hand guided power tools for more than a few hours a day, you could be at an increased risk of damage to your nerves, blood vessels and joints of the hands, wrists and arms, which can also cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS).

You are also at an increased risk if you operate hammer action tools for more than fifteen minutes per day and some rotary action tools for more than an hour a day. These can include the following:

  • hammer drills
  • powered mowers
  • chainsaws, brush cutters and hedge trimmers
  • sanders, grinders and disc cutters
  • concrete breakers
  • chipping hammers
  • needle guns

This is by no mean an exhaustive list, and if you have been diagnosed with Vibration White Finger which you suspect is as a result of your working conditions, get in touch with our specialist team today. At your free initial consultation, we can let you know the likelihood of a successful claim, and your fee options including whether your case is suitable for a no-win, no-fee arrangement. What are the symptoms?

The symptoms of Vibration White Finger can vary, with some cases being more severe than others. Usually, a sporadic ‘pins and needles’ sensation in one or more fingers is common early on. Other symptoms of Vibration White Finger and CTS can include loss of strength in your hands, tingling and numbness in the fingers, loss of sensation in fingers and disturbed sleep.  If you are suffering from these symptoms and continue to use high-vibration tools, the numbness and pain could become permanent.

How can Calio Claims Help?

Employees who work in the engineering, mining, agricultural, offshore and construction industry are more likely to develop a vibration injury. We have particular expertise in dealing with claims in these sectors, how injuries occur, and how best to proceed with making a claim. When you contact our team, we will ask questions to more fully understand your specific circumstances. From there we will begin building your case and securing the evidence to support your claim. This may include safety reports, medical reports and witness statements from other employees or workers.
