Circumstances of claim
Our client was a council tenant. The electricity supply to her home started cutting out temporarily.
She reported the problem to the Council. The Council sent someone out to take a look but didn’t do anything further. The problem continued.
On the night of the incident, our client was moving from one room in her home to another the electricity cut out. As a result, she tripped and fell and suffered a fractured jaw.
How we helped our client
We notified a claim to the Council. They denied liability.
We therefore required to raise a court action for our client. We then instructed reports from both a housing expert and electrical engineer. They both blamed the Council for failing to properly investigate, and sort out, the problem with the electricity supply.
We also instructed medical reports from an oral surgeon and psychologist. We progressed the court action. The Council then settled the case at £20,000.
