In December 2024, the Personal Injury Court in Edinburgh heard the case of Farheen Ackrim -v- UK Insurance Limited, which was a rear-end shunt, road traffic accident.

Circumstances

The Pursuer was involved in a road traffic accident on 16 August 2020 where her car was hit from the rear by the Defender at a junction in the south side of Glasgow.

Injuries and treatment

The Pursuer was diagnosed as suffering from soft tissue injuries to her neck, which limited her mobility for several weeks. After worsening symptoms for 12 days, she sought advice from her GP and was prescribed painkillers. The Pursuer fully recovered within 3 months.

Settlement

The court considered the evidence that the Pursuer was continuing to suffer pain when she was assessed for the purposes of a medical report. It was determined that the evidence was unconvincing given the contemporaneous GP records, however, there were likely residual symptoms present at the time.

Ultimately, the court awarded a total of £3,144 in damages which included £450 for assistance from family.
